By Winnie Ma Sung

 May 28, 2015

First, I want to thank the award committee members, Taekia Glass and Ken Cordo, for their time and careful considerations and deliberations of the regional award. Congratulations to the award recipients recognized at the CSI Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference:

Organization/Certification of Merit – F&R (Lunch & Learn) - AWARDED

Robert P. Brosseau Memorial Award – Robert Vaughan - AWARDED

Distinguish Service Award – Barbe Shaffer – AWARDED

Region President’s Certificate of Appreciation - Barbe Shaffer – AWARDED

Region President’s Certificate of Appreciation - Stephen Weisensale – AWARDED

Second, I want to thank the product show committee, Stephen Weisensale, Barbe Shaffer, Mike Bricker, Ken Cordo, Carissa Mulahn, Stephen L’Heureux, MaryAnn Petry, Gib DeShazo, Tony Hawkinson and the board of directors for their time and the behind-the-scenes work on the product show.  I want to especially thank the chairman, Kevin Riley, who devoted countless hours of waking up at 5 am in the morning for days to organize the product show tasks and made it a successful product show.

The seminar speakers were phenomenal and the attendees had many positive feedbacks. We had over 95 people signed up and many walk-ins.  The attendees who took time to visit all the product reps and learned about the new products left cheerful with the gift cards and prizes for the bingo game.  Thanks to the generous support of the vendors, there were many $100 -$50 gift cards to Amazon, Lowe’s, Home Depot, StarBuck and other gifts.  An attendee came up to me and told me that she was so thankful to be able to pick up the product samples for her project. Another attendee told me that she will join the CSI again next year. The food was delicious and the desserts were delightful.  Both volunteers, product representative and attendees were excited and impressed how smooth the product show went.  The number of vendors and the seminars were just perfect for a one day event.  It was a fabulous day for networking and education.

Richmond CSI thanks all the product show representatives who showcased their products, and helped make the product show a great success.  The product show united and provided opportunities for every profession to share among all the construction industry’s disciplines.

We were honored to have Jane Harris with Virginia State University and John Budesky with Hanover County for the “Procurement of AE Services.”  Both of the speakers gave a very informative presentation on what AE firms could do to make the process better for those procuring their services and how to get work on their term contracts. Sam Kirby, the president emeritus of F&R, was the moderator.

The afternoon session focused on “Review and Approval of Construction Documents”.  The panelists were Mike Coppa with BCOM, Jim Finch with Glave & Holmes Architecture, Chris Snidow with Henrico County, Ron Reynolds with the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) and Douglas Murrow with City of Richmond.  Don Young, the vice president and regional manager of MBP was the moderator.  The discussion provided AE firms with insight into the review and approval process and how to make the process better for those firms and agencies that procure AE services for their construction projects.  In addition to the panel discussion, there were the excellent technical seminars presented by the product representatives.  The seminars provided an ongoing quality education.

On behalf of the Richmond CSI, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the participations of the panel speakers at the Product Show. The feedback was extremely positive.  Thank you for participating by sharing your expertise with our participants.  All responses were enthusiastic about the content and the overall quality of the presentation.

Thank you for making the 2015 Richmond CSI product show a success!
