CSI Academies is an outstanding conference for people who are interested to learn about construction contract specifying (CS), contract administration (CA) and certified product representative (CPR).  The conference attendees had several joint panel discussions to discuss construction practices from the Owner, Architect and Product Representative’s perspective.  Discussions included to understand Construction Warranties and Substitutions. Damon Hernandez, Executive Director of AEC Hackathon, was the keynote speaker for Tech Mixology: Shaking Up Design & Construction.  He shared about latest development in Artificial Intelligence, Hologram, 3D Printing and Web Applications related to the construction industry.  There were three simultaneous academy tracks, and each track was directed toward the different project delivery participants. Attendees were encouraged to attend multiple tracks and to ask questions during the presentations. The topics were practical to different construction practices and the information served as a reminder of best practices.  Attorneys presented the many possible construction risks. I attended both the CA and CS track. Some of the seminars were Specifications for Small Projects, Understanding the Backbone of your Projects, Codes in Specifications and Dos and Don’ts in Construction Phase Services.  Speakers were very knowledgeable and shared with enthusiasm. The conference was held at San Francisco and the weather was nearly perfect.

At lunch, I met and talked with Alana Griffith, the vice president with Empirehouse, Inc. She is a Certified Construction Product Representative, and a Fellow in the Construction Specification Institute. She is the CSI's First Female Distinguished Member honored at the CONSTRUCT 2014.  It was great to talk to a successful woman in the construction industry since women account for only nine percent of the entire construction industry. I saw her receiving her award last year and got an opportunity to get to know her. She is an inspiration to women in this industry.

Middle Atlantic Regional Conference will be hosted by the CSI Philadelphia Chapter, There will be an award ceremony to honor MAR Awards recipients at the Conference Gala.  The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday May 2nd 2015 at the Concordville Inn, Routes 1 & 322 in Concordville (suburban Philadelphia), PA.  Several members from the Richmond Chapter will be receiving the award this year.  I hope you will attend the conference and support the award recipients

Richmond CSI Product Show is breaking Chapter record with the number of tables sold for the show exhibit.  The seminars are being finalized with panel discussion groups in the morning and at noon.  There will be seminars appropriate for small business owners and professionals who works at large or small architectural/engineering firms.  Free lunch will be provided with an opportunity to talk to the product representatives about the latest product information. Let’s aim to break the Chapter record for product show attendees as well. Tell a colleague and bring a friend!
